Dr. Andrew O’Donohue is a nonresident scholar in Carnegie’s Democracy, Conflict, and Governance Program. His research studies law and courts, democracy and authoritarianism, and Middle East politics, with a focus on Türkiye and Israel.
O’Donohue’s writing has published in The Atlantic, Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, Lawfare, The Washington Post, and other outlets. His research has also been published in The Journal of Democracy, The Middle East Journal, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences Nexus. His book, Democracies Divided: The Global Challenge of Political Polarization, co-edited with Thomas Carothers, was published by the Brookings Institution Press.
His work has been cited in The New York Times and BBC News, before the U.S. Supreme Court, and 850+ times on Google Scholar. O’Donohue received his Ph.D. in government from Harvard University, where he was a fellow at the Harvard Radcliffe Institute, a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow, and speaker at Harvard’s 375th Commencement.
